The Marines Could NEVA

Hey guys, gays, gworls! I’m back at it like a crack addict with my review on “Aquaman” the movie. CAUTION: There are spoilers ahead.

“Once home to the most advanced civilization on Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater kingdom ruled by the power-hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining oceanic people — and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm’s half-human, half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep. “

The “Aquaman” movie takes us on a thrilling journey around the world and the seven kingdoms of Atlantis in this action-packed family-esque movie. From the very beginning, we’re told this is a story of how love saved the world! For a horror movie extraordinaire, James Wan really outdid himself! One of my favorite things I love about the movie is that the relationship between Arthur and Orm is the same as it is in the comics.

Orm uses the hate he has for Arthur for Arthur to fuel his motives and almost every action. The hate he has isn’t even valid because of Arthur really ain’t do anything, but whatevs. He believes that Arthur the “half-breed bastard” is the reason for his mother’s death when we all know it was Orm’s trashy a** daddy’s fault for forcing marriage upon a lady who doesn’t even want you. Like how you get mad that she ran away to escape and have a life just to get her back and send her to the trenches?

The plot was well-developed, and every single scene made you feel immersed in the film itself! The scenes showing the past was perfect for story building. Not too much where it takes the focus off the plot but also not too little where you don’t know what’s going on. What also made the movie was the BOMB FREAKING VISUALS!!! Speaking of visuals, let’s hop right to it!

Just like the plot and the storytelling, the visuals were just as good! You want to know what the creative design team did: THAT!

My first concern upon release was that the scenes were going to look very lackluster compared to its DCEU movie counterparts (We don’t count the “Justice League” movie). I thought there would be little to no underwater scenes and that the ones it had would be very dark and ugly when Atlantis is everything but dark. For once I was proven wrong and am happy that I was! It exceeded my expectations, to be honest. Things they’ve done again: THAT! I like how they added differences to how the seven kingdoms of Atlantis appeared to show that there’s diversity in the looks of it.

One of my favorite scenes was when Arthur and Mera were diving deep into the trenches to get to the Lost Kingdom. The fear instilled in my heart… whew chile! My heart was beating fast for the characters! Another one of my favorite scenes was the part when Mera was running from foot soldiers while Arthur and Black Manta duked it OUT! Everything about that scene was so freaking beautiful. Like ugh, their MINDS!

Character Development

The character development of this movie was PHENOMENAL! That’s it. That’s the message!

The love story between Atlanna the Atlantean Kween and Tom Curry was beautiful as hell. The fact that this man waited DECADES for Atlanna to come back to the pier every day at sunrise is love! Like that’s some real love right there!!! The chemistry between Jason Mamoa and Amber Heard was amazing!!! I’ve seen better but they’re definitely up there. They went on set and did what had to be done… PERIOD!!! The whole rivalry between Arthur and Orm along with the passing of the OG Manta was done and executed oh so perfectly! Every single character grew in some way, shape, or form as the plot progressed on!

My overall rating for this movie is 9 out of 10 and no, you cannot change my mind! If you have seen it then I know you agree with me. If you haven’t then sis… Go see it NOW!!!

Aquaman is out in theaters but not for long! So hurry up and go see it or wait until it’s out on digital platforms!

Stay Gay and Geeky,
