Hey guys, gays, and gworls! I’m back at it like a crack addict with my take on the continuation of the Shazam storyline through its new comic book series “SHAZAM”!
“Teenager turned super-hero Billy Batson struggles to balance school and superheroics! (Guess which one is more fun?) But when Shazam unlocks a shocking secret deep within the Rock of Eternity, it challenges everything he knows about the worlds of magic and his family’s future as its champions! Also, witness the bizarre team-up of Dr. Sivana and Mr. Mind as they set off to build a society all their own! Don’t miss the start of an epic run in the making as ‘Shazam and the Seven Realms’ begins!”
After 20 years without a monthly title, Geoff Johns and his team of some creative artists band together to bring back one of DC Comic’s most loveable superhero family (the Bat-family could NEVA)!
What I really enjoy about this comic series is that it’s entertaining as h*ll! It serves action and adventure with a side dish of comedic relief. Like honestly, a Shazam comic wouldn’t be a good comic without the comedy. Of course, this series has moments of seriousness but c’mon now, it’s about six kids who become literal god-tier heroes! I wouldn’t want to read a Shazam story without any Billy Batson-esque feel to it! Aside from that, I really love how they stick to the theme of what family means. It just warms my heart a bit!
This storyline takes Billy and the other foster kids on an adventure through the “Magiclands” where they will learn more about their power and everything that the great wiz Shazam couldn’t teach Billy. I like how the lands have a kid feel to them with all the action of an adult. Who would’ve thought Funland wouldn’t be so fun?
Certainly not I! In addition to the “Magiclands”, we see the return of their two greatest arch-nemesis Dr. Sivana and Mister Mind! The smartest magical and telepathic worm tagging along with a scientific genius – ugh, what a collab! They’ve introduced the two but haven’t had them encounter the “Lightning League” (haha) yet. But with what’s going on in the series so far, they’re not too far off from an encounter. I guarantee that it’ll be EPIC. One thing that I really wish to happen is that they show off good sis Darla Dudley more because of how much I stan a black, curly-puffed queen!
With us being 3 comics in, I can honestly say that I cannot wait for each issue to release monthly. I just might pick up the physical copies to go with my digital ones because it is well worth it! Y’all really need to get into this series like ASAP no Rocky!
“SHAZAM” is available to read digitally on ComiXology and physical copies are at a comic shop near you! Also, stay tuned for a movie review when it drops April!
