Truth Be Told

Hey guys, gays, and gworls! I’m back at it like a crack addict with a review on the Apple TV+ Truth Be Told.

Truth Be Told is about a podcaster and journalist by the name Poppy Parnell (played by THE great Octavia Spencer) who starts to question herself and the role she played in a murder case that had put her on the map. Poppy originally help use her platform to get what she thought was an innocent man imprisoned. When that same case reopens years later, new evidence reveals that she had helped imprison an innocent man. Now, to clear her conscious, she is now looking to use her platform yet again to get the same guy free and the real story out there.

We’re three episodes in (Apple TV+ new show standard) and all I can say is YES! Octavia perfectly embodies the character she’s playing. We also get to see more black excellence on the screen with her TV family. Some notable actors and actresses, Michael Beach, Mekhi Phifer, Ron Cephas Jones, and a few more. I like how they added in her family that not only aids her with advice but also opens up Poppy to show more of her human side. Yeah, the show is about the case and the people surrounding the case, but it’s nice to see someone be the main character’s peace (and sometimes chaos) in a drama show like this, ESPECIALLY a black family at that.

Aside from the blackity blackness that the show gives us, all actors and actresses gave a phenomenal performance. You can feel the emotion (and sometimes lack of) in all the scenes. Each and every character has some depth to them. All characters bring something good to the table, something that help the plot progress.

I know just two months ago I said I’m not too sure on how Apple TV+ would stand up against other streaming services, but they’ve been doing the d*mn thing, especially this show! Truth Be Told deserves a good 9 out of 10.

Truth Be Told is available to stream on Apple TV+ now with new episodes releasing weekly.
